Methodology

ResinMetrics estimates the expected cost of producing a successful resin print, then layers on per-unit selling costs to show profit and margin.

Important:

This is a planning model, not an accounting or tax system. Your results depend on the assumptions you enter.

Material

Resin cost is based on the entered resin volume and price per litre. If you enter grams, the calculator converts mass to volume using the resin density you provide.

resin cost = resin mL × (price per litre ÷ 1000)

Failures

A failed attempt still consumes material, machine time and consumables. We therefore divide the base plate cost by the probability of success.

expected successful plate cost = base plate cost ÷ (1 − failure rate)

Machine wear

Printer and screen wear are modelled as straight-line cost per printing hour using your purchase/replacement cost and expected service life.

machine wear = print hours × (printer price ÷ expected printer life hours)

Labour

Hands-on labour covers the time you choose to allocate to washing, support removal, curing, cleanup, packing or other manual work.

Selling economics

True unit cost combines production cost per model with marketplace fees, fixed transaction fees, packaging, fulfilment and optional tax included in the entered selling price. Profit is customer revenue minus that true cost.

profit = (selling price + shipping charged) − true unit cost

Target-margin prices

The suggested prices solve for the entered variable fees, optional tax and fixed unit costs at 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% target margins. They are estimates, not recommended market prices.

Preset assumptions

The small, medium and large printer presets are editable starting assumptions only. They are not manufacturer specifications. For serious costing, replace them with figures for your actual equipment and workflow.
